Wrocław is one of the easier Polish cities to see on a small budget, because the city and its museums have built free days into the week. The catch is that every day is a different museum, so the trick is to plan around the weekday. Here is the schedule, the free viewpoint, and what to do when nothing is free. Details were checked against museum and city pages in October 2026; opening hours and exhibitions change, so glance at the museum's site before you go.

Which Wrocław museums are free, and on what day?

Free days apply to the permanent exhibitions, not to temporary shows.

  • Tuesday: Four Domes Pavilion, the National Museum's branch with modern art, free permanent exhibition.
  • Wednesday: Museum of Architecture on Bernardyńska Street, and the Wrocław Contemporary Museum, free admission.
  • Thursday: Wrocław Contemporary Museum again, and the City Museum of Wrocław. Permanent exhibitions are free at several branches, including the Royal Palace (the city's history) and the Arsenal (military and archaeology museums).
  • Saturday: National Museum and the Ethnographic Museum, permanent exhibitions free.

Monday is the day to avoid: the museums above are closed.

Is there a discount if the day does not fit?

Yes, two of them. At the National Museum branches, children under 7 enter free, and pupils and students up to 26 pay 1 zł. And a ticket to the Panorama of the Battle of Racławice also gives free entry to the permanent exhibitions of the National Museum, the Ethnographic Museum and the Four Domes Pavilion for three months after your visit, so that one ticket can cover several days.

Is there a free viewpoint in Wrocław?

Almost every tower costs money. According to the city's own list (2024 prices), St Elizabeth's Church is the cheapest tower at 10 zł, and the Sky Tower, on the 49th floor, costs 49 zł. The free exception is Bastion Sakwowy, a 14-metre bastion on the old fortifications that the city lists as open to everyone at any hour. It is a modest height, but it costs nothing and it is open at sunset.

What is free whatever day it is?

Most of the best of Wrocław is simply outside:

  • The Market Square and the streets around the Old Town Hall.
  • Ostrów Tumski, the cathedral island, and the walk across the bridges to it.
  • Słodowa Island and the river embankments, which are good for a long afternoon.
  • The open-air exhibition on famous women of Wrocław in the city centre (read more).

A sample free-ish day

Pick the weekday first. On a Thursday, spend the morning in the Royal Palace and the Arsenal, walk to the Market Square at lunch, and end at Ostrów Tumski. On a Saturday, swap in the National Museum. If you would rather not plan it, a Hemstig walk strings the free places together with a story at each stop, so you get the city without paying for entry.
