Wrocław with children: a family day that kids will not call boring

Wrocław is an easy city for families. The centre is compact, the trams are frequent, and the best thing a child can do here is also the cheapest: hunt for the bronze dwarfs. Built around that, a family day needs only a few more stops, and the rest can be short.
Why do children love the dwarfs?
The dwarfs are small, and finding them is a game. Each one has a story, and children quickly learn to spot them on railings, under windows and near tram stops. Start with Papa Krasnal, the first of them, on Świdnicka Street, and then let the children choose the next one. For a planned route, see Wrocław dwarfs: where to find them.
Which stops work for small legs?
Keep each stop short and close to the next. A good family order looks like this:

- The Market Square and the Old Town. Start here for the dwarfs and the colourful houses. Let children run ahead to find figures, and agree on a meeting point.
- Ostrów Tumski. The cathedral island is calm and quick to walk. Children enjoy the old gas lamps, and the grounds give them space to move between churches.
- The Zoo. Wrocław Zoo is one of the oldest in Poland and has a full day's worth of animals. Plan at least two hours and check which areas are open in the season you visit.
- The Centennial Hall and its fountain. The Multimedia Fountain next to the hall puts on free evening shows in the warmer months. Check the schedule before you go, because it is seasonal.
How do you keep the day easy?
Use trams between the far stops instead of walking everything. Plan a lunch break early, because children get hungry before adults notice. And do not try to find every dwarf: the plan works better if you leave one or two for the next visit.
For a full adult walk with the same stops in order, see One day in Wrocław. If you are looking for things that cost nothing, Free things to do in Wrocław covers the free options.
Check before you go
Opening hours and seasonal shows change, so check them the day before. Some museums have child-specific rates or free days, and the zoo and the fountain both run to a seasonal timetable.
